New Review! The Girl Without Magic by Megan O'Russell 4 Cranky Stars

The Girl Without Magic (Chronicles of Maggie Trent, #1)The Girl Without Magic by Megan O'Russell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Cranky Stars

Maggie Trent dies fighting in battle... Or does she? Wandering around thinking she's dead, Maggie finds out that she's been transported to another realm. The realm she ends up in is the Siren's realm. Everything in this realm is bought with magic. Maggie convinces everyone that she has no magic and does everything she can to create a safe life for her there. Magic is finite in this realm and she has no intention of giving up what she has. She's a great talker and uses that to her advantage.

Bertrand Wayland is a man who has been in the Siren's realm for centuries. He seems to have figured out that Maggie isn't as magic less as she says she is. Together this odd duo ends up on adventures Maggie never expected. In this world, there are stitches that allow both Maggie and Bertrand to travel to other worlds temporarily to gain magic to use in the Siren's realm. While in another realm Maggie meets people who need her help learning how to fight because they are about to go into war. Here is where she meets Tammond, and there is an instant attraction. Maggie and her new friends all learn things during this adventure all while learning about others as well.

There are a lot of unexpected developments as well as twists and turns in the story. The character development is well done and interesting. The worlds that the author created are not only very detailed but also quite interesting. The story flowed well and it was a fairly quick read. The plot is new and fresh and demands attention. Being the first book to start a new series, there's enough going on to keep the story interesting while lining it up for continuation. There aren't any grammar issues to speak of. I enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to the next in the series.
