Release Blitz! Ashes to Memories by Annie Anderson

Ashes to Memories
Annie Anderson
(Ashes to Ashes #5)
Publication date: October 13th 2017
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Romance
What she doesn’t know just might kill her.
Nicola is having trouble settling into her new life.
Memories assault her at every turn – even in her dreams. When a friend comes to her for aid, Nicola is once again thrust into a dangerous world – a world she still cannot remember.
Kyle thought the worst was over.
Sure, his wife can’t remember their beginning, but even with a few bumps, having her is better than not. But keeping Nicola alive is a full-time job even he might not be able to fulfill – especially when his darling wife decides to jump into the fray.
It turns out the worst has only just begun.
EXCERPT:
Kyle reaches for me, lifting me from the seat and maneuvering my body under the spray while he holds me to him. I try to concentrate on the feel of his skin against mine, but a flash of red catches my eye. Even with my clothes gone, I’m still covered in blood. The steam billows as the lava hot water rinses the scarlet gore from my skin. I watch the water run red for a moment before diluting to a wispy pink and then finally running clear.
Watching it run from my skin causes something inside me to break, and I heave a breath before shattering. I feel it all over again, Talia’s broken bones, my breath lodging in my throat when all I wanted to do was scream, the dizzying realization that I might be dying, and my heart…
I feel wrong in my own skin, feel like I’m wrong. And if I am the one who is different – if I am the one who caused all this mess – how can Kyle want me this close to him? How can the rest of them? Baron and Bella wanted intel on me. They still need me for something, and even though I told them why she was hurt, I don’t think they grasp what Baron and Bella will do to anyone in their way.
Oh, god… I have to go. I have to leave. I can’t be here anymore.
“Breathe, Shortcake,” Kyle demands in my ear, and it is like he has said the magic words and my lungs begin their torturous slog of hauling air to my bloodstream.
I can’t help the shiver of fear that whips across my skin. Kyle hitches me up his body, my feet leaving the tiled shower floor to wrap around his back. He tightens his hold on me, and for a moment, I feel safe. My breath slows, and I make a concerted effort to bury my nose in his neck and inhale his scent. He is warm where I am cold, he is strong where I am weak, he fills in the gaping gaps of my soul.
My lips find the skin of his neck without prompting from my brain. I need him so much – probably more than he needs me, but I don’t care.
“I don’t think you realize that your life is precious – that the very breath in your lungs and beat of your heart is a relief to me. I don’t know what’s going on in your head, and I don’t know what happened to Talia. Honestly, when it comes to anything but you, I really don’t care. You have to start thinking before you act, Nicola.”
“I didn’t mean to…” I try to break in, but he isn’t having it at all.
“It doesn’t matter that our lives are tied together. I knew what it meant to be your husband when I bound you. Hell, I never even expected you to wake up at all, so I knew what I was getting into. But you are worth more than my life. You are more important than just me. You have saved more lives than I could ever hope to count. You’ve done more good than I could ever hope to do.”
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a minute.
“What do you mean our lives are tied, Kyle?” I ask, pulling back to look him in the eye and fight against a full-scale panic attack.
“Exactly what I said. My life is tied to your life. If your heart stops beating, my heart stops beating. When you were in the hospital, I bound you to me knowing that I didn’t want to have a life at all without you in it. It was reckless of me, but I don’t regret it,” he replies, his fervent whisper lashing my heart like a whip.
How could he risk himself that way? And for what? A wife who didn’t even remember him when she woke up? If I didn’t love him so much, I would knock some sense into this man.
“Why would you do that? My God, Kyle! People want to kill me. How could you?” I plead with him, grabbing his face, so he’s forced to look at me. The chocolate of his irises bleeds back and forth from black to brown as if he can’t decide which form he wants to take.
“I’m not living without you, Nicola,” his gruff whisper hits me as his lips brush mine.

New Review! Return to the Island by L.B. Dunbar 5 Cranky Stars

Return to the Island (Island Duet Two)Return to the Island by L.B. Dunbar
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Cranky Stars

Return to the Island by L.B. Dunbar. This is the much-anticipated sequel to Redemption Island. Oh my gawd this book had more ups and downs than a roller coaster. I thoroughly enjoyed each twist and turn. Juliet and Tack reunite twenty-two months later after they swore that they would find one another.

My heart was in my throat for most of this book. I was clutching my pearls as I turned each page. Would they or wouldn’t find one another? Juliet had survived another betrayal by someone close to her. I felt so angry for her that I wanted to punch the individual that betrayed her. And Tack, oh how my heart hurt for him.

L.B. Dunbar, you have really outdone yourself on this one. You know how to draw the reader into your stories and torture them emotionally. I mean this with the utmost respect. You are definitely in my top ten of favorite authors. I will recommend this book to others.

New Review! Twin Savage by Sunniva Dee 5 Cranky Stars

Twin Savage (Porn Star Boyfriends, #2)Twin Savage by Sunniva Dee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Cranky Stars

I was looking forward to the second book in this amazing new series . I wanted to see what other porn star Sunniva Dee could make me fall in love with and she didn’t let me down with Luka.

Geneva is an anthropology student. She lives in a run down frat home with 7 other guys. A home they lovingly call the Queen. It’s here she lives with her fiancĂ© Julian. I wish I could say he was the love of her life but he certainly was one of her first loves. They were both going for their doctorate when tragedy struck. Now she has to stare at the face of his identical twin brother whom she despises for his current career choice. Geneva likes to study the grieving rituals of tribes in the Amazon and applies these practices to her own way of dealing with grief. She likes things to fit in her neat little boxes and is quick to judge.

Luka has deep dark secrets. He is a medical student well on his way to becoming the doctor he’s always dreamed of being. Sharing a house with others including his identical twin brother and his fiancĂ© he pays his student loans in a unique way. Luka is a porn star and a good one at that. People marvel at his stamina. Luka is now swimming in grief but wants to help Geneva heal and achieve her dreams. He must put aside the one person he couldn’t save for someone he wants in his life for always.

I’m going to admit ninety percent of the time I despised Geneva. She was such a critical judgemental witch. She couldn’t see that what she was doing was the same thing she trashed Luka over. Her coping skills were deplorable but I guess they were her own way.

Lukas personality comes out in pieces. It’s not this sudden I love him type thing. You see he’s a good person and he has a lot of soul but come on he’s a porn star. This book touched on some nerves and feelings as I too have had a front seat to grief and someone trying to start over again. I think once again Sunniva Dee proved her books have heart and soul even if she approaches it in a different way. I mean come on a porn star teaching us about grief! I read this book from beginning to end in a matter of days. This is certainly a series to keep an eye on. I think I know who’s next.

New Review! Breakaway by Sophia Henry 4 Cranky Stars

Breakaway (Pilots Hockey, #5)Breakaway by Sophia Henry
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Cranky Stars

Breakaway by Sophia Henry is a sports romance story. However there is more to it than just sports. There is redemption, second chances, and finding yourself.

During the first couple of chapters I was turned off by Luke’s character. I couldn’t relate to him because I thought that he was a spoiled jerk. Bree was an easy character to relate to. She comes from a family that wants and demands too much from her.

Without going into details and spoiling it, Bree and Luke are destined to meet. They are connected without even knowing it. They go through the ups and downs to be together. I thought the pacing was slow in some spots, and rushed in others. This did take away from the story for a little bit. However, there was some plot twists that made up for the parts that were lagging. The supporting characters were written beautifully. They did not take away from the story at all. I will recommend this story to others.

Review Blitz! Halloween is Murder by Carolyn Arnold

Title: Halloween is Murder
Author: Carolyn Arnold
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Hosted by: Lady Amber’s PR
Blurb:
Beware of all that goes bump in the night…
Sean and Sara McKinley are excited about the haunted house they’ve set up as a Halloween charity fund-raiser, but things take a ghoulish turn when the reporter covering their story is found dead. With the media keeping mum about how she died, Sara’s curiosity is piqued, and she convinces Sean to take on the investigation through their PI firm.
But this case is not without its challenges. The police are actively investigating it, as well, and it’s not even clear that the woman was murdered. It will take a little cloak-and-dagger, dress-up, and finesse for the McKinley’s to get to the bottom of it, but they aren’t the kind to give up.
As they troll for leads and work through the skeletons in the reporter’s closet, they unearth a few suspects, but they’ll need to carve out the whole truth if they’re going to find her killer. If they do so fast enough, there might even be time for a little trick-or-treating.
CAROLYN ARNOLD is an international bestselling and award-winning author, as well as a speaker, teacher, and inspirational mentor. She has four continuing fiction series—Detective Madison Knight, Brandon Fisher FBI, McKinley Mysteries, and Matthew Connor Adventures—and has written nearly thirty books. Her genre diversity offers her readers everything from cozy to hard-boiled mysteries, and thrillers to action adventures.

Chapter 8
STUCK BETWEEN A GRAVE AND A TOMBSTONE
SARA’S HEART RATE TICKED UP a few notches at Marie’s assured conclusion that someone had killed Chloe. She could feel Sean staring at her, but she refused to look at him. She knew that his eyes would be telling her not to get attached to investigating this case. Besides, he had said they could look into Chloe’s death more, which hadn’t been a commitment, she knew, but she’d taken it as his word. Even a little investigating was a step in the direction she wanted to go. And just because she had a gut feeling about Chloe’s death didn’t mean she’d lost all objectivity.
“Why do you think someone killed her?” Sara asked.
“It’s just… None of this feels right.” Marie picked at her purse strap, its fabric frayed and threads poking out. Probably a nervous habit of hers.
Sara gave Marie the once-over. For someone who lived in a nice neighborhood, Marie’s clothing and accessories didn’t speak of wealth. It also didn’t seem Chloe’s sense of style was a trait her sister shared.
“And why doesn’t it feel right?” Sean, a skeptic if ever there was one, pressed.
Sara looked over at him. It didn’t seem to matter how long they worked together; he would never fully cave to the weight she put on intuition.
So much for rubbing off on the people you spend the most time with…
“The police talked to me at length,” Marie said, “but they didn’t ask the types of questions I would have expected if they were treating it as a murder.”
“Like what?” Sara asked.
“I thought they would have asked who would have had reason to kill her, for one.”
“We spoke with Jackson—” Sean started.
“Yes, I know,” Marie cut in. “That’s how I got your information.”
“Then you know that he was held for questioning.”
Marie nodded. “I do, but he didn’t think they grilled him very hard, either.”
There was only so much law enforcement could do without cause. Still, they could have held Jackson for longer than the time it had taken them to question him. By law, they had up to twenty-four hours to hold him without filing a formal charge.
“And Chloe’s health was excellent. We have no history of disease or people just—” Marie averted her eyes “—dropping dead in our family. Our grandparents lived into their eighties on both sides. Now, our parents are both dead, but they were in a car accident.” She added the latter part quickly.
“Do you have any other siblings?” Sara asked, though she only remembered reading that Chloe had a sister.
Marie shook her head. “It was just…” She cupped the sides of her face and pinched her eyes shut. Tears squeezed out from the corners, falling down her cheeks without apology.
A knot balled in Sara’s chest, and she took a shallow breath. She was getting too caught up emotionally—again. And taking on the grief of others wasn’t healthy. At least so far with this case, she’d managed to stuff the feelings deep down inside. But she’d be lying if she said she didn’t fear that one day they’d bubble to the surface all at once.

Cover Reveal! My Week with the Bad Boy byBrooke Cumberland and Lyra Parish

Title: My Week with the Bad Boy
Authors: Brooke Cumberland & Lyra Parish
Genre: Contemporary Romance / Standalone
Cover Design: RBA Designs
Photographer: FuriousFotog
Model: Joey Berry
Never trust a man who answers the front door wearing nothing more than a pair of low-cut jeans and a panty-melting smirk.
That should’ve been my first sign. I write about guys just like him for a living—sexy and charming, yet reluctant to get into a serious relationship. His body screams sex appeal, but his condescending personality makes him a classic fuckboy. And I want nothing to do with that. Writing romance novels comes with its perks—traveling, meeting new people, creating characters from the voices in my head—but Ethan Rochester enters my life and rearranges all my preconceived notions about writing what inspires you. One week is all it took. One week to realize that not everything is as it seems. One week with the bad boy, and I wanted more.
*except is unedited and subject to change.*
I’m pretty sure I need CPR or some kind of life-saving equipment.
I can’t seem to catch my breath, even though I’m breathing just fine, but the way he just kissed me and then walked away has my mind reeling and my body confused as hell.
His lips were so warm and inviting, I couldn’t pull away. I didn’t want to pull away and that’s even more confusing to me than I like admitting. However, I can’t deny the way his kiss affected me. The way his body pressed against me. The way my body responded to him like I was some desperate sex-deprived woman.
I’m not by the way. Stupid traitorous body.
I’m still trying to catch my breath when I leave and walk out the back door. Quickly glancing around to make sure Henry isn’t following me again, I walk down the garden path and head back inside the cottage.
I don’t have time to think about Ethan and that kiss, I remind myself.
I don’t have time to analyze the way that kiss made me feel, I also remind myself.
But fuck. It was a really good kiss.
But why did he kiss me? And why did I kiss him back?
Ugh! How dare he kiss me like that!
My mind is all over the place, I can’t keep up with my own thoughts. His proposal repeats in my head. I’m talking myself out of his offer then I’m talking myself into considering it. Would it really be so bad to have one night of fun while I’m here?
What am I even saying?
I palm my forehead, trying to smack the oxygen back into my brain.
This man is making me second-guess everything and is driving me absolutely crazy! I write about heroines who have one-night stands or who fuck a guy after just meeting them, but that isn’t real life. At least not for me. I’ve seen first hand what jumping into a relationship based off sex can do to a couple and it isn’t pretty.
Deciding to march back over there, I don’t bother knocking before letting myself back in. I stomp my way upstairs even though I have no idea where he went, I’m not thinking straight anymore. My heart is racing but I’m determined to give him a piece of my mind.
