New Review! There Once Were Stars by Melanie McFarlane, 4 Cranky Stars

There Once Were StarsThere Once Were Stars by Melanie McFarlane
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

**** 4 Cranky Stars ****

An international virus attacked the citizens of the earth and those who were immune were placed in safety within self contained Domes, which had been erected around existing cities. Cleansing bombs were then deployed, destroying everything and everyone not under a dome. It was meant to be a temporary measure until the radiation levels left from the cleansing war had dissipated.

Natalia (Nat) Greyes grew up in dome 1618 and despite the fact that her parents, both scientists had been killed by radiation 10 years before while on an expedition, is fairly content with her lot under the dome.

On her 18th birthday she has to start working in the Axis to discover her interest for a lifetime career as her contribution in the dome. She is a bit of a rebel and as a result is witness to an incident, which draws into doubt everything she has believed in. She gets drawn into a resistance movement to topple the crooked powers that be.

This is not a big book, however it is well written and complete with a satisfying, hopeful conclusion. I award it 4 cranky stars.
