New Review! When It Rains by Lisa De Jong, 5 Cranky Stars

A few good book friends gave me the suggestion of this book, so I caved, and read it. Oh my heart and soul, it absolutely tore me to shreds, and when I thought I couldn’t cry anymore, it hit me with another emotional whammy! Brilliant story of surviving loss and tragedy, and learning to love yourself when you’re at the bottom of the pit, so to speak.

Kate was a carefree teenage girl, with friends and a single mother who worked herself silly to take care of them. One night changed everything, and turned her into a shell of her former self, causing the life she knew to be drained away. Two years later, and she’s basically hiding in the shadows, and pushing the one friend she has left (Beau) away. Beau has tried time and time again to break her out of her shell, and find out what really happened to her, but she keeps it under lock and key, thinking Beau and everyone else wouldn’t believe her and cause more damage to her already broken spirit.

In walks Asher Hunt, mysterious hottie with a bad rep. He instantly takes a liking to Kate, which causes confusion and surprise on her part, because she’s drawn to him also. Asher slowly does what no one else has been able to, and it’s super sweet and swoon worthy! Just when you think the tissue supply isn’t needed…BAM…we’re hit again! So many heartbreaking moments, yet it also brings to light the struggles for acceptance and love, when you feel you’re unworthy. At the end of the day, this was a tough one to get through, trying to read through the tears half the time, but it was beautiful and amazing too!
